Slippery elm bark is a soothing nutritive demulcent which is perfectly suited for sensitive or inflamed mucus membrane linings in the digestive system. It is often used as a food during convalescence, as it is gentle and easily stimulated. Externally it makes an excellent poultice for use in cases of boils, abscesses or ulcers.
Assist in soothing a sore throat / mix 2 teaspoon slippery elm powder in 2 glasses of water / steep for 7-10 minutes/ strain, gargle 2 – 3 times per day. Cures inflammatory bowel diseases.
For digestive problems it may be used with marshmallow.
It is capable of facilitating digestion, thus leading to the management of weight. Fights GERD (1-2 tablespoons elm in 1 x cup after a meal.
Gastroesopitageal reflux
Gerd occurs when stomach acid repeatedly flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esopitagus) this backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of your esophagus.
For asthma:
2 x teaspoons slippery elm powder
2 x glasses of water / cover and let steep for 5 minutes
Strain – add honey if preferred
Drink 2 x on a daily basis
To aid in weight management:
- 2 x tablespoons of slippery elm, bark powder and 2 x glasses of boiling water.
- Allow to steep for 5 minutes.
- Drink this solution 2-3 times on a daily basis.
